Taffeta (English spelling)

Japanese: タフタ(英語表記)taffeta
Taffeta (English spelling)
A thin silk amber fabric (a type of silk fabric). The word originates from the Persian word meaning to spin or weave with twisted threads. The warp threads are about half the thickness of the weft threads, and the density is more than twice as high. It is a plain weave fabric with horizontal ribbing. The fabric is stiff and firm. Plain white is common, but striped and patterned versions are also available. It has been around in Europe since the 16th century, and was introduced to Japan during the Nanban trade period. Currently, Kiryu and Kyoto are known as the main production areas, and it is often used for women's clothing such as evening dresses, wedding dresses, scarves, and blouses. Recently, products using chemical and synthetic fibers have also been produced. There are also taffeta taffeta, iridescent taffeta, and tama taffeta.
