A method of calculating interest, as opposed to simple interest. When calculating interest, interest is added to the principal at regular intervals, and this is calculated successively as new principal. This method is sometimes called compound interest. Even if the interest rate is the same, the longer the period, the greater the interest due to compound interest will be than that due to simple interest.
