A village in Seta County, central Gunma Prefecture. Population 13,021 (1995). Occupying the western foot of Mount Akagi, with the Tone River flowing south along its western border. The Joetsu Line passes through the village, and the railway line is on a river terrace, but in early modern times the Numata Highway ran through the foot of the mountain, with a post station at Mizoroki. Until now the gentle slopes at the foot of the mountain were fields and mulberry farms, but now the main agricultural industry is pig farming and other livestock farming, and konjac is also produced. At an altitude of around 400m in the south, there are springs called Wakutama, which are used as water sources for the water supply system and rice fields, and the Takizawa Stone Age Dwelling Site (history) is also located near one of the springs.
