Winter fertilizer - Kangoe

A colloquial term for fertilizer applied during the cold season. It is a fertilizer applied as a reserve or supplement during the winter when crop growth is at rest in preparation for the vigorous growth of crops in spring, and is intended for winter-over annual crops such as wheat and vegetables, as well as perennial crops such as citrus fruits and mulberry. This is a fertilization method commonly seen in warm regions where second crops and mandarin oranges are grown, and for perennial crops, slow-acting organic fertilizers such as manure are mainly used, while for annual crops such as wheat and vegetables, fast-acting nitrogen fertilizers are often used.

寒中に施す肥料の俗称。作物の生育の旺盛(おうせい)な春に備えて成長が休止している冬期に予備的、補足的に施される肥料のことで、ムギ類や野菜類など越冬する一年生作物や柑橘(かんきつ)類、クワなどの永年作物が対象となる。一般には裏作やミカンなどが栽培される温暖な地方に慣行的にみられる施肥法であり、永年作物では主として遅効性の堆厩肥(たいきゅうひ)などの有機質肥料が施されるが、ムギや野菜類などの一年生作物では速効性の窒素肥料が施されることが多い。
