Akashino

Japanese: 赤志野 - あかしの
Akashino

...The main types of ware are tea ware such as tea bowls, vases, water jars, and teapots, as well as tableware such as bowls, plates, mukouzuke, and sake cups, as well as incense containers and oil cups. The types include (1) plain Shino with no design, (2) painted Shino with iron painting under the glaze, (3) mouse Shino with iron-rich mud applied to the base, a scratched pattern applied and a feldspar glaze, (4) red Shino with a mud of slightly less iron and a feldspar glaze to give it a red color, and (5) kneaded Shino made by kneading iron-rich clay and white clay. During the first half of the 16th century, a new style of high-temperature ash and feldspar glaze was developed in Seto and Mino, and this technique was developed during the Tensho period (1573-92) as a glazing technique using only feldspar. It was highly valued as Japanese tea ware and high-quality tableware unique to Mino.
