This refers to investments made to prevent the real value of one's assets from decreasing due to inflation, or the assets that are the target of such investments. Hedges refer to transactions made to protect assets from completely unforeseeable risks. Households usually hold a large portion of their assets in financial assets with fixed interest rates, such as time deposits. Therefore, if unexpected inflation occurs, the real interest rate generated by these fixed-interest financial assets will decrease by the amount that the principal depreciates due to inflation.
