Omoglymmius crassiusculus (back muscle worm)

Japanese: セスジムシ(背筋虫) - セスジムシ（英語表記）Omoglymmius crassiusculus

Also known as the Yamato sessile beetle. An insect of the Coccidae family in the order Coccidae. The body is dark brown and shiny. There is a Y-shaped groove on the head, and three grooves on the pronotum extend to the front, but the central groove does not reach the front edge. Each elytra has a row of punctations, and the shoulders protrude strongly forward. Body length is about 7.5 mm. It is distributed in Hokkaido and Honshu, and mainly lives under the bark of dead fir, hemlock, and other coniferous trees in mountainous areas. Mating and egg-laying occur under the bark in July and August. The larvae bore into rotting wood, but are carnivorous and prey on other insects.

ヤマトセスジムシとも呼ばれる。甲虫目セスジムシ科の昆虫。体は暗褐色で光沢がある。頭にY字形の溝があり，前胸背の3本の溝は前方までのびるが，中央の溝は前縁に達しない。各上翅には点刻列があり，肩部は前方へ強く突出する。体長7.5mm内外。北海道，本州に分布し，主として山地の立ち枯れたモミ，ツガなどの針葉樹の樹皮下に生息する。7～8月に樹皮下で交尾，産卵。幼虫は朽木に穿孔（せんこう）するが，肉食性で他の昆虫を捕食する。
