A city in northwestern Chiba Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1934. The city area straddles the Shimousa Plateau and the Edogawa Delta, and borders Edogawa Ward, Tokyo, across the Edogawa River to the west. The coastal reclaimed land is in the northern part of the Keiyo Industrial Area, and large companies such as steel companies have set up there. Pears, strawberries, and other fruits are produced in the rural areas. The city suffered damage during the Great East Japan Earthquake. 57.45 km2 . 473,919 people (2010).
