〘Noun〙 ("Me" is the Go-on pronunciation of "horse". In modern times, it is also called "shinme") 1. A horse dedicated to a shrine, meaning a horse used for riding by the gods. Horses offered to the gods when making pilgrimages or making prayers. The coat color differed depending on the purpose, such as black for praying for rain and red for praying for sunshine. This later changed into the custom of votive plaques.
