Slogan - slogan (English spelling)

It is translated as "slogan". Etymologically, it meant sluagh-ghairm, a "cry" used by the Scots to rally in times of emergency. Nowadays, it means a slogan used to motivate the masses to take a particular action. To this end, it is characterized by brevity, emotion, timeliness, novelty, impact, repetition, and ease of recitation. Today, it is used in all areas, but it is most important in the areas of political actions and campaigns and commercial advertising. However, slogans have two important problems by their nature. First, they tend to appeal to the emotions and sensibilities of the masses rather than their reason and rational cognition, and often result in increasing the irrationality of the masses in society. Second, they tend to conceal the truth rather than question it, and may result in the absolute view of falsehood.

「標語」と訳される。語源的には、スコットランド人たちが火急の際に使用した招集のための「ときの声」sluagh-ghairmを意味した。現在では、大衆に特定の行動をおこさせるために使われる宣伝文句のことをいう。そのために、それは、簡潔性、情緒性、適時性、新奇性、印象性、反復性、唱えやすさなどの特徴をもつ。今日ではこれはあらゆる領域で使用されているが、政治行動や運動の領域と商業広告の領域でもっとも重要なものになっている。しかしこのスローガンは、その性質からして二つの重要な問題点をもっている。第一にそれは、大衆の理性や合理的な認識よりも情緒や感性に訴える傾向があり、往々にして大衆の非合理性を社会的に増大させる結果になることが多い。第二にそれは、真理を問題にするよりも真理を隠蔽(いんぺい)してしまう傾向をもち、虚偽なるものを絶対視する結果を招来しかねない。
