Japanese: 複式火山 - ふくしきかざん（英語表記）composite volcano

A general term for volcanoes that have formed several times in a complex manner, resulting in double, triple, or quadruple volcanoes. After a caldera forms in the center of a stratovolcano, small volcanic cones often form inside it. The small volcanic cone inside is called the central crater cone, and the ring-shaped mountain ridge that surrounds the caldera is called the somma. Crater floors and crater lakes can sometimes be seen inside the somma. Rivers that cut through the somma and flow out are called crater rapids. Volcanoes that are surrounded by two somma are called triple volcanoes. Volcanoes such as Akagi, Haruna, and Usu are examples of double volcanoes, and Hakone is a triple volcano.

数回にわたり不連続的により小規模な火山体が複雑に形成され，二重式，三重式，四重式になった火山の総称。成層火山の中央にカルデラが形成されたあとに，その内部に小規模な火山丘ができる場合が少くない。内部の小火山丘を中央火口丘，カルデラの周囲をなす環状の山稜を外輪山と呼ぶ。外輪山の内側に火口原，火口原湖がみられることもある。外輪山を切って流出する川を火口瀬という。外輪山が2重に取巻いている火山を三重式火山と呼ぶ。赤城，榛名，有珠などの火山は二重式，箱根は三重式火山の例。
