A battery that uses a photochemical reaction. In 1839, AE Becquerel discovered that when two electrodes are placed in a certain electrolyte solution and one of the electrodes is exposed to light, a potential difference is generated between the two electrodes. This is because oxidation and reduction reactions occur in the solution due to the absorption of light, and a battery with two electrodes as negative and positive poles is called a photochemical cell. It can be seen in solutions of barium ferrocyanide and silver iodide, and is used to convert solar energy into electrical energy. [Fukumoto Toshihiko]
