Fukue [village] - Fukue

Japanese: 福栄[村] - ふくえ

A village in Abu District, northern Yamaguchi Prefecture. Population 2,814 (1995). The Oi River flows southwest through the village, and the Abu River Dam, which was completed in 1975, is located on the Abu River, which flows on the border with Kawakami Village in the south. The central settlement of Fukui Shimo is on the Sekishu Highway, which runs from Hagi to Tsuwano, and in the early modern period it was the site of a post station. Most of the village area is forest, and in addition to rice, Chinese cabbage, shiitake mushrooms, grapes, and chestnuts are cultivated, and hornless Japanese beef is raised. The village is home to scenic spots such as Otaki and Medaki waterfalls in the middle reaches of the Oi River, Sazare Cave, which played a part in the Akiyoshi orographic movement, and the karst topography of Handadai, as well as the Morita family house, an important cultural property.

山口県北部，阿武郡の村。人口2814(1995)。村内を大井川が南西流し，南部の川上村との境を流れる阿武川には，1975年完成した県営阿武川ダムがある。中心集落の福井下は萩から津和野に至る石州街道が通じ，近世には宿駅が置かれた。村域の大部分が山林で，米作のほかハクサイ，シイタケ，ブドウ，クリの栽培，無角和牛の飼育が行われている。大井川中流の雄滝と雌滝，秋吉造山運動の一翼を担う佐々連（さざれ）鍾乳洞，半田台のカルスト地形などの景勝や重要文化財の森田家住宅がある。
