Photogenie - Photogenie (English spelling) French

Japanese: フォトジェニー - ふぉとじぇにー(英語表記)photogénie フランス語
Photogenie - Photogenie (English spelling) French

A film term. It was used in France in the 1920s to describe the characteristics of an image. The idea is that the true essence of a subject can be captured by passing it through a camera lens. In contrast to the contemporary Russian theory of montage, which emphasized the way multiple images were combined, this film emphasized the characteristics of the image itself. Etymologically, it comes from the word "photogenic" (from Greek, meaning "something made by light"), coined at the time of the birth of photography, which means something that looks good in a photograph, and has been translated into English and is still commonly used today. In 1920, film critic and director Louis Delluc gave his own definition in his book "Photogénie", which has since influenced many filmmakers, including Jean Epstein, and has been used to describe the characteristics of an image to this day.
