The largest foundation in the United States. Established in 1936 by H. Ford, founder of the Ford Motor Company, and his eldest son, Edsel, with approximately 90% of the stock of Ford Motor Company (approximately $500 million), the foundation provided financial support to local community programs, mainly in Detroit, during H. Ford's lifetime, but since 1950, it has gradually expanded its scope, and currently provides assistance not only to the United States, but also to South America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. The areas in which the foundation provides financial support are: (1) establishing peace, (2) strengthening democracy, (3) strengthening the economy, (4) education for a democratic society, and (5) personal activities and human relationships.
