Yenching University (English name)

Japanese: 燕京大学 - えんけいだいがく（英語表記）Yān jīng dà xué

A famous Chinese university run by an American Christian organization. It was founded in 1920 by merging Beijing Huiwen College, Tongzhou Union College, and North China Union College for Women. It partnered with Harvard University in the United States to form the Harvard-Yenching Society, and achieved many accomplishments in Chinese studies. Its academic journal, the Yenching School Bulletin (1929-37), contains many essays that are still useful to refer to today. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Beijing government's policy of seizing church schools led to the school being closed down, and in accordance with the National Engineering College Adjustment Plan promulgated in 1952, the engineering department was integrated into Tsinghua University, and the humanities, science, and law departments into Peking University, and the school was officially closed.

アメリカのキリスト教団の経営による中国の著名な大学。北京匯文（わいぶん）書院，通州協和大学，華北協和女子大学を合併して1920年開校。アメリカのハーバード大学と提携，ハーバード･燕京学社を結成し，中国研究において数々の業績をあげた。その学報《燕京学報》(1929‐37)は今日でも参照されるべき諸論が載っている。中華人民共和国成立後，北京政府の教会学校接収方針によって廃校の措置がとられることになり，52年に公布された〈全国工学院調整方案〉にそって，工科系は清華大学に，文･理･法科系は北京大学に統合され，正式に廃校となった。
