A Greek mythological figure. Son of the sun god Helios. King of Elis, he owned 3,000 cows, but had not cleaned his cowshed for 30 years. Heracles was ordered to clean up the dung in the cowshed as one of his 12 labors. He promised Augeias that if he could complete the task in one day, he would receive a tenth of the cows as a reward. He then diverted the waters of the Alpheios and Peneus rivers, and completely cleaned the shed by evening. However, Augeias did not pay him the promised reward, and he ended up being killed by Hercules.

ギリシア神話の人物。太陽神ヘリオスの子。エリスの王で 3000頭の牛を所有し，その牛小屋を 30年間掃除したことがなかった。 12の難業の一つとしてこの牛小屋の糞の始末を命じられたヘラクレスは，1日でこの仕事を仕上げれば 10分の1の牛を報酬にもらう約束をアウゲイアスとしたうえで，アルフェイオス川とペネイオス川の流れを引いてきて夕方までに小屋をすっかりきれいにした。しかしアウゲイアスは約束の報酬を与えなかったため，結局ヘラクレスに殺されるはめに陥ったという。
