Born December 30, 1917 in Myeongdong, North Manchuria [Died] February 16, 1945. Korean poet from Fukuoka. Childhood name: Kaihwan. After graduating from Yeonhee College, he came to Japan. While studying English at Doshisha University, he was arrested by the Japanese police for his involvement in the independence movement and died in prison in Fukuoka Prison. After liberation in 1948, his literary friends published his posthumous collection of poems, "Sky, Wind, Stars and Poetry." While his works show a fierce sense of resistance in solitude, most of them are pure lyric poems filled with self-sacrificial love for humanity. He is a poet who most purely embodied the noble and sensitive self-consciousness of colonial intellectuals, and is a gem who adorns the void of Korean literature in the early 1940s, when all literary activity was not permitted under Japan's extreme oppression. His representative works include "A Night of Counting Stars," "Prologue," "Cross," and "Self-Portrait."
