…the indigenous people of the western Balkan Peninsula in antiquity; known by the Greeks as Illyrioi and by the Romans as Illyrii. Both terms refer to several related groups of ancient Indo-European origin, including the Venetians and Dalmatians, whose names are preserved in Venice and Dalmatia.
