Buoy - Buoy (English spelling)

Buoy - Buoy (English spelling)

Also called a buoy. A structure that is tethered to the seabed by an anchor or weight and floats on the sea as a navigational aid, it is used to inform ships of the presence of obstacles such as reefs and shallows, and to show the way. Buoys that emit light so that they are effective at night are called lighted buoys, while those that do not emit light are called buoys, and what they show is determined by the buoy type. Some buoys are equipped with whistles that sound when waves hit them, bells that ring when the target is rocked by waves, electric horns that make sounds at set intervals through electrical vibrations, and radar reflectors to improve the reflection of radar waves, making them useful when visibility is poor due to fog, etc.

The word "buoy" can also be used to refer to mooring buoys for ships, anchor buoys for indicating the position of an anchor, and radio buoys (automatic distress signal transmitters) that are not necessarily attached to the seabed.
