A modern concept of Yamato-e. It defines seasonal events, plants and animals, and natural scenery as "scenery," and refers to paintings depicting these. It is mainly used for screen paintings. In traditional terms, this would include four seasons paintings and monthly paintings, but famous places paintings can also be considered scenery paintings, given the motifs they depict. By introducing the concept of scenery paintings, we can look at the genealogy of Yamato-e from ancient times to the early modern period with new eyes.
