Railway Song - Tetsudoshouka

Japanese:
Railway Song - Tetsudoshouka

The title of a song. The lyrics were written by Owada Takeki. There are two versions, composed by Uesanemichi and Oonoumedowaka, and the latter's song was a big hit. The Osaka Miki Sasuke edition of the song collection consists of five volumes, and the first volume, "Geographical Education Railway Songs" (Tokaido), which begins with "A whistle blasts Shinbashi," was published in May 1900 (Meiji 33). In the same year, volumes (2) Sanyo and Kyushu, (3) Tohoku and Northern Kanto, (4) Shinetsu and Hokuriku, and (5) Kansai were also published, and were very well received as they helped to spread geographical education and transportation knowledge. Similar songs were created in various places, and songs about railways across the country were sung up until the 1911 "Sanin Line Railway Song." In 1928 (Showa 3), when the transportation network had improved, the Ministry of Railways, in collaboration with the Tokyo Nichi Nichi Shimbun and the Osaka Mainichi Shimbun, held a contest to collect entries for the "New Railway Song." In addition, from 1937 to 1938, the Japan Broadcasting Corporation produced the "New Railway Song" and broadcast it as a national song.
