Also known as fiberboard. A building material made by pulping vegetable fibers, adding adhesive, and forming them into boards through the following processes: board making, drying, humidification treatment, and finishing to a fixed length. In the JIS classification, boards with a specific gravity of 0.4 or less are called soft fiberboards (insulation boards), those with a specific gravity of 0.4 to 0.8 are called semi-hardboards, and those with a specific gravity of 0.8 or more are called hard fiberboards. Soft fiberboards are used for interior use as sound-absorbing and heat-insulating materials, while hard fiberboards are used for interior and exterior walls, ceilings, and floors. Inorganic fibers such as glass fiber are also used.

繊維板とも。植物繊維をパルプ化して接着剤を添加し，成板→乾燥→増湿処理→定尺仕上げの工程を経て成板した建築材料。JIS分類では比重0.4以下を軟質繊維板（インシュレーションボード），比重0.4〜0.8を半硬質繊維板（セミハードボード），比重0.8以上を硬質繊維板（ハードボード）という。軟質繊維板は吸音材，断熱材として内装用，硬質繊維板は内外壁・天井・床材として使用される。またガラス繊維など無機質繊維も使用される。
