...The stage name of a Kinko-ryu shakuhachi performer. The first was Toyoda Kodo. The second took the name, but not the surname, and changed to Araki. Since then, his biological sons have taken the name, and so far, the fifth generation has taken it. The second is the most famous. (1) First (?-1851 (Kaei 4)) Born of a samurai family. Real name Toyoda Katsugoro. A senior disciple of Yamada Nyodo of the Ikkan-ryu (a branch of the Kinko-ryu from the Bunsei to Meiji periods). (2) Second (1823-1908∥Bunsei 6-Meiji 41) The third son of Araki Kamezaburo, a samurai of the Minakuchi domain in Omi. Real name Hanzaburo. He loved the shakuhachi from an early age, and at the age of 14, he studied under Yokota Goryu of the Ikkan-ryu, mainly learning gaikyoku. ...
