Born: November 13, 1753, Verona [Died] November 18, 1828, Verona. Italian poet and tragedian. He was strongly attracted to the Greek and Latin classics, and translated works by Homer, Horace, and the French poet Racine, among others. He is especially known for his translation of the Odyssey. In addition to his main work, Poesie campestri (1788), he also wrote the tragedy Arminio (1804).
