Also known as liver fluke. A flatworm 10-25mm long belonging to the trematode family. A willow-leaf-shaped parasite found in Southeast Asia, with endemic areas in Japan including low-lying, humid lakes and marshes. The first intermediate host is the bean snail, and the second intermediate host is freshwater fish such as carp, crucian carp, and minnow. If eaten raw, it will parasitize the bile ducts in the human liver. In severe cases, it can cause liver damage.
