A Russian revolutionary and Menshevik leader. After graduating from Kiev University, he joined the Narodnik movement and became a member of the "Chernii Peleghr (Total Land Reapportionment)" faction. In 1883, in exile in Switzerland, he founded the first Marxist organization in Russia, the "Liberation of Labor," together with Plekhanov and others. After the Second Congress of the Russian Social Democratic Party in 1903, he became a Menshevik and came into conflict with Lenin and the Bolsheviks by advocating legal trade union activities.

ロシアの革命家、メンシェビキの指導者。キエフ大学卒業後、ナロードニキの運動に参加し、「チョールヌイ・ペレジェール（全土地割替）派」のメンバーとなった。1883年、亡命先のスイスでプレハーノフらとともに、ロシア最初のマルクス主義の団体「労働解放団」を創設。1903年のロシア社会民主党の第2回大会以後メンシェビキとなり、合法的な組合活動を主張して、レーニンらボリシェビキと対立した。
