Pyrethrins
Also known as pyrethroid. The active insecticidal ingredient in pyrethrum. A pale yellow, viscous oily substance made up of pyrethrin I, II, cinerin I, II, etc. It enters the body through the insect's spiracles or cuticle and paralyzes the nerves. It has strong insecticidal power but very low toxicity to humans and animals. Its weakness is its weak residual effect. It is used in mosquito coils, as well as in powders, emulsions, extracts, etc.

ピレスロイドとも。除虫菊の殺虫有効成分。化学的にはピレトリンI,II,シネリンI,IIなどからなる淡黄色粘稠(ねんちゅう)の油状物質。昆虫の気門や表皮から体内に入り神経を麻痺(まひ)させる。殺虫力は強いが人畜毒性はきわめて低い。残効が弱いのが欠点。蚊取線香のほか,粉剤,乳剤,エキスなどにして用いる。
