Pires, Tomé
[Born] Around 1468
[Died] Portuguese traveler around 1540. Traveled to India in 1511 and stayed in Malacca from 1512 to 15. Dispatched to China as a trade envoy by order of the Viceroy of Goa, he was detained and died there. His book, Suma Oriental, is the best historical source on East-West traffic at the time.
