A broker is a person who buys and sells bills and short-term government bonds, or who acts as an intermediary in the buying and selling of bills and short-term government bonds. In practice, the term often refers to the London bill discounting houses (sometimes translated as bill discounting companies or bill discounters). The word broker originally referred to a mere intermediary in the buying and selling of bills, but for historical reasons, a bill discounting company that bought bills at its own risk came to be called a bill broker. It also includes a simple intermediary called a running broker. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
