German economist and politician born in Vienna. German Social Democratic Party theorist. In his major work, Finance Capital (1910), he analyzed finance capital, one of the essential characteristics of imperialism, and contributed to Marxist economics. He also argued that depressions could be eliminated by "organized capitalism." He was Minister of Finance in 1923 and 1928, and went into exile in 1933 after being pursued by the Nazis, but was captured and died in prison. → Related articles Austro-Marxism | Imperialism | Marxian economics Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
