Years of birth: Unknown. A Buddhist sculptor of the In school in the late Heian period. Said to be the son of Insuke. The Choshu-ki records that in 1134, in the presence of Inkaku, he measured the dimensions of the 18-foot Buddha in the Kokutsune Ason Hall in the Western Temple, famous for being made by Jocho, and used this as a reference for the construction of a new Buddha. In 1139, he was handed down the Hokkyo title by Inkaku after the Buddha statue in the tower of Hokongo-in was made. It is said that he made the half-foot-18-foot Amida Triad at the Shirakawa Imperial Palace in 1142, the life-size Seio statue by Fujiwara no Yorinaga the following year, and the 18-foot-18-foot Amida statue at Saishokongo-in in 1155, but no surviving works are known. He was appointed Hokan between 1142 and 1143, and Hoin by 1161. He was one of the leading In-pa Buddhist sculptors of his time, on a par with Inkaku and Inson, and was considered the founder of the Rokujo Manri-koji Buddhist Temple in later generations. <References> Masumi Shimizu, "Incho the Buddhist sculptor and Yoshinaka Manor: Buddhist sculptor's manorial position and the genealogy of In-pa Buddhist sculptors" (Research on the History of Medieval Sculpture) (Kazuharu Asai) Source: Asahi Japanese Historical Biography: Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc.
