Peach moth (Conogethes punctiferalis)
An insect of the Lepidoptera family, Pyralidae. Also known as the Spotted Peach Moth. Wings span 2-2.5cm. The body and wings are orange-yellow with black spots scattered on them, and the outer transverse line is bent like a sawtooth. The antennae are whip-like and more than 2/3 the length of the forewings. They are found throughout Japan except Hokkaido, and are widely distributed from China to Southeast Asia. The larvae are polyphagous and are known as major pests that feed on various fruits, infesting chestnuts, peaches, apples, pears, and mandarin oranges. They appear two to three times a year and overwinter as larvae. Although it varies depending on the region, the first larvae generally appear around June and mature in July.
