A culture from the early Italian Iron Age, with the Villanova site, located about 8km west of Bologna in northern Italy, as its reference site. Its origins date back to the Pre-Villanova culture, which corresponds to the Late Mycenaean Period, Phase III, around the 12th century BC, in other words, the transitional period from the Bronze Age to the Iron Age. The Villanova culture was formed around the 11th century BC and continued until the 8th century BC. Characteristic items of the culture include urns for holding cremated ashes, single-edged razors, safety pins (fibulae), and bronze belts and figurines.
