A pass in the Oeyama mountain range between the Kyoto Basin and the Kameoka Basin in the southwest of Kyoto Prefecture. It is 193 meters above sea level. It is also called Oeda Pass. Until the Edo period, the San'in Road was the only transportation route connecting Kyoto and the Tamba area, and it is said that Oe Barrier was already established in 679 (the 8th year of Emperor Tenmu's reign) as a transportation and military strategic point. The whole area was called Oedayama, and the Oeyama in Koshikibu no Naishi's "Oeyama Ikuno no Michi no..." is also interpreted as referring to Oinosaka, and Akechi Mitsuhide also set out from here to attack Honnoji Temple. When the San'in Main Line was opened in the Meiji period, the transportation value of the pass temporarily declined, but in the Showa period it became an important transportation route again. Currently, National Route 9 passes through a tunnel in place of the old road, and automobile traffic is frequent.
