Flat-clawed crab - Ovalipes punctatus

Japanese: ヒラツメガニ(平爪蟹) - ヒラツメガニ(英語表記)Ovalipes punctatus
Flat-clawed crab - Ovalipes punctatus
A decapod crustacean of the family Portunidae (illustration). It is an edible crab with a carapace width of 10 cm, and although it does not produce much meat, it is sometimes caught in large quantities and shipped. Because the outline of the carapace is rounded, it is often called Maru or Kinchakugani among fishermen. The carapace curves front to back and side to side, and the carapace area is unclear except for a deep H-shaped groove in the center of the carapace. It looks like there are four protrusions lined up on the forehead. There are five triangular protrusions on the front edge of the carapace, and the outer edges of all of these are rounded.
