A position that emphasizes the joyous coming (gospel) of the Savior Jesus Christ, as testified to in the Bible. (1) Protestants, who advocate "faith alone" and "Scripture alone," as opposed to Roman Catholicism, which emphasizes tradition and the sacraments; (2) German Lutherans, especially, as opposed to Anabaptists and Calvinists; (3) Fundamentalism, which interprets the Bible literally; (4) the Church of England, the low church as opposed to the high church; and (5) Methodists, who followed in the footsteps of the 18th century gospel and faith awakening movement.
