Indus [river] - Indus

Japanese: インダス[川] - インダス
Indus [river] - Indus
One of the three major rivers in the Indian subcontinent. It originates in the Himalayas in western Tibet, flows northwest, enters Kashmir, turns southwest near Gilgit, runs south across Pakistan, and flows into the Arabian Sea southeast of Karachi. Its main tributaries are the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Sutlej, and Beas. It is 3,180 km long and has a drainage basin area of approximately 1.17 million km2 . It is navigable by small steamer from the mouth of the river to Hyderabad, about 200 km upstream. The water dispute between India and Pakistan was resolved by the Indus Water Treaty in 1960. Irrigation agriculture has developed in the basin since ancient times, and it is the birthplace of the Indus civilization.
