...Non-harmonic tones are dissonant with the chord to which they belong. Also, chords that are formed by chance due to non-harmonic tones are sometimes called accidental chords. Non-harmonic tones may not only appear in one particular voice, but may also be used simultaneously in multiple voices to form a chord with other non-harmonic tones.
