This shrimp belongs to the family Cranidae of Crustacea and lives on the sandy and muddy bottom of inland bays (illustration). It is 4.5 cm long. Its body is particularly flat, especially the cephalothorax. The first and second thoracic legs form pincers, with the first thoracic leg uniquely sickle-shaped and the second thoracic leg extremely thin. Its body color is brown or blackish brown, but it can easily change its body color depending on the environment. The spawning season is from November to July, with the peak season being from late February to late April. There are long-term (summer) and short-term (winter) generations in its life cycle. The long-term generation is spawned from late February to late April, and grows into medium-sized shrimp by mid-October, some of which spawn, but they grow rapidly into large shrimp until early February of the following year, when they die and live for one year.
