Yakumo [town] - Yakumo

Japanese: 八雲[町] - やくも

A town in Futami District, Hokkaido. It borders Uchiura Bay and the Sea of Japan across a mountain range, and the Hakodate Main Line and the Do-o Expressway run along Uchiura Bay. The Yakumo Plain downstream of the Yurappu River is a pioneering dairy farming region in Hokkaido. Progress is being made in increasing the number of dairy cows and modernizing management. The fishing industry is also thriving. In October 2005, Kumaishi Town, Echigo District, was incorporated and the district was changed from Yamakoshi District to Futami District. Area: 956.07 ^km2 . Population: 18,896 (2010).

北海道二海(ふたみ)郡の町。内浦湾と，山地をはさんで日本海にも接し，内浦湾沿いに函館本線，道央自動車道が通じる。遊楽部(ゆうらっぷ)川下流の八雲平野は北海道の酪農先進地域。乳牛の多頭化，経営の近代化が進められている。水産業も盛ん。2005年10月爾志郡熊石町を編入し，山越(やまこし)郡から二海(ふたみ)郡に変更。956.07km²。１万8896人（2010）。
