A war fought in 168 B.C. in Pydna, on the Aegean coast of southern Macedonia, between the Roman army led by Aemilius Paulus and the Macedonian king Perseus. Defeated, Perseus fled to the island of Samothrace, but was captured. This battle gave Rome the victory in the Third Macedonian War, and marked the end of the Macedonian royal family's rule over northern Greece. It is said that after this battle, Rome's rule over the Mediterranean world was complete. [Tamura Takashi] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
