Tazaemon Mochizuki

Japanese: 望月太左衛門 - もちづきたざえもん

A Nagauta musician. There have been 10 generations to date, but the 7th is the most famous. The name Mochizuki Tazaemon first appears in November 1773 (An'ei 2) as a small drum player at the Nakamura-za in Edo, but much is unknown about the first three generations. (1) First generation: Years of birth and death unknown. Said to be a disciple of Uno Choshichi, his former name was Kashiwazaki Goshiro. It is said that he took the surname Mochizuki after the Tagoto moon on Mt. Obasute in Shinshu, his hometown. (2) Second generation: Years of birth and death unknown. He is said to have been succeeded by the second Kashiwazaki Goshiro, the third son of the second shamisen player Kashiwazaki Gonbei.

長唄囃子方。現在まで10世を数えるが7世が著名。望月太左衛門の名前が最初にあらわれるのは1773年(安永2)11月，江戸中村座の小鼓方であるが，3世までは不明な点が多い。(1)初世　生没年不詳。宇野長七の門弟といわれ，前名柏崎吾四郎。故郷の信州姨捨（おばすて）山の田毎（たごと）の月から思いついて望月を姓としたという。(2)2世　生没年不詳。三味線方2世柏崎権兵衛の三男，2世柏崎吾四郎がついだという。
