A city located in the north-central part of Miyazaki Prefecture, facing the Sea of Hyuga. It was incorporated as a city in 1951. It is connected to the Nippō Main Line and the Higashi-Kyushu Expressway. Hososhima has long been a good port, and developed as an outer port for Nobeoka City and a fishing base. The large clams caught at nearby Isehama are famous for being used to make go stones. Mimitsu in the south is also a fishing port. Located close to the power source area upstream of the Mimikawa River and blessed with irrigation water, the city was designated a new industrial city in 1964, and factories have been established mainly around Hososhima Port. In recent years, resort development has been progressing, taking advantage of the city's abundant tourism resources. The coastal area is part of the Nippō Coast Quasi-National Park, and the creation of a tourist and recreational base is underway. There is Myokokuji Garden (a scenic spot). In February 2006, Togo Town in Higashiusuki County was incorporated. Area: 336.93 km2 . Population: 63,223 (2010). → Related article Mimitsu Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
