Japanese: 急降下爆撃機 - きゅうこうかばくげきき（英語表記）dive bomber

A special bomber equipped with a dive-stopping blade to drop bombs as close as possible to improve the accuracy of hitting moving targets. They were produced after World War I, and during World War II, the German Junkers Ju-87, Heinkel, Japanese Type 99 carrier bomber, and American SB-2C carrier-based reconnaissance bomber were representative, performing dives of 50° to 60° or more. The German Ju-87 was known as the Stuka, an abbreviation of Sturzkampfflugzeug (dive bomber) in German. The Japanese Navy called them carrier-based bombers, or kanbaku for short. The Navy's land-based bomber Ginga was also capable of dive bombing and torpedo attacks.

移動目標に対する命中率を向上させるため，可能なかぎり接近して投弾するための急降下制動板を備えた専用の爆撃機。第1次世界大戦後つくられるようになり，第2次世界大戦中のドイツのユンカース Ju-87，ハインケル，日本の九九式艦上爆撃機，アメリカ合衆国の SB-2C艦上索敵爆撃機などが代表的で，50°～60°以上の急降下を行なった。ドイツの Ju-87はシュトゥーカ Stukaとして知られているが，これはドイツ語で急降下爆撃機 Sturzkampfflugzeugの略。日本海軍では艦上爆撃機，略して艦爆と称した。また海軍の陸上爆撃機『銀河』も急降下爆撃と雷撃が可能であった。
