A former town in Yoro County, in the southwestern tip of Gifu Prefecture. Settlements are scattered along the Makida River basin, which separates the Yoro Mountains from the Suzuka Mountains. The town produces timber, shiitake mushrooms, and other crops. There is a colony of Rhododendrons japonica (a natural monument) in Ichinose. 岐阜県南西端，養老郡の旧町。養老山地と鈴鹿山脈を分ける牧田(まきだ)川流域に集落が散在，木材，シイタケなどを産する。一之瀬にホンシャクナゲ群落（天然記念物）がある。2006年３月安八郡墨俣町と大垣市へ編入。123.38km2。6829人（2003）。
