…the school of medieval philosophy formed in Chartres. Chartres is located southwest of Paris. In the 6th century, a monastery was established there. Under Bishop Fulbertus (c. 960-1028), an affiliated school was established, which saw the active development of the liberal arts and sciences. By the 12th century, it had become the center of Plato studies. Bernard of Chartres, following Plato's Timaeus, advocated the theory of organic nature, and Bernardus Sylvestris elevated the "cosmic soul" that gives life to the divine, leading to a pantheistic tendency. …

…an early scholastic theologian. His Latin name was Fulbertus. He was born in Picardy, France, and became chaplain of Chartres Cathedral in 990 and bishop of the same city in 1006.
