Japanese: ヒメダイ(姫鯛) - ヒメダイ（英語表記）Pristipomoides sieboldii

A marine fish of the family Lutjanidae in the order Perciformes. Its body is elongated and spindle-shaped. It is reddish overall, but the back is a dark gray-purple-red and the abdomen is pale. The dorsal, pelvic and caudal fins are generally reddish brown. It reaches a total length of 40 cm. It is called Ogo (Tokyo), Chibiki (Kansai, Kyushu), Komasu (Hachijojima) and Marudai (Kagoshima, but it is also called Nagasaki Snapper, which is a member of the same genus). It is found from central Honshu southwards, through the Indian Ocean to Hawaii. It lives in rocky areas at depths of 100-300 m and is caught by vertical line and single line fishing. It is a high-quality white-fleshed fish that is served as sashimi, sushi, wan-seed and grilled with salt.

スズキ目フエダイ科の海産魚。体は延長した紡錘形。全体が赤っぽいが，背部が灰紫赤色が濃く，腹部は薄い。背びれ，腹びれ，尾びれは一般に赤褐色。全長40cmに達する。オゴ(東京)，チビキ(関西，九州)，コマス(八丈島)，マルダイ(鹿児島，ただし同属のナガサキフエダイとの混称)などと呼ばれる。本州中部以南，インド洋からハワイにかけて分布する。水深100～300mの岩礁地帯にすみ，立縄，一本釣りで漁獲する。白身の高級魚で刺身，すし種，わん種，塩焼きにする。
