Also known as the HR diagram. A diagram in which each star is plotted on the vertical axis, with the spectral type (representing the surface temperature of the star) on the horizontal axis and the absolute magnitude on the vertical axis. Main sequence stars are distributed diagonally from the upper left to the lower right, giant stars are horizontally distributed around absolute magnitude 0, and white dwarfs are distributed on the lower left. This is important for classifying stars, and is used to study their internal structure and evolutionary process.

HR図とも。横軸に恒星の表面温度を表すスペクトル型，縦軸に絶対等級をとって，その上に各恒星をプロットした図表。左上から右下へ対角線状に主系列星，絶対等級０等付近に水平に巨星，左下に白色矮星(わいせい)等が分布する。恒星の分類に重要で，内部構造や進化過程の研究に利用される。
