The first acrobatic unicycles (a type of bicycle) were introduced to Japan by the Americans William and Laura Elgitt. In 1908, they performed unicycle acrobatics, including "Elgitt's Descending the Stairs," at the Kabukiza Theater in Tokyo, and they became popular in the Japanese acrobatics world.
